Richard Michael Dragland

In Loving Memory of Richard Michael Dragland August 23, 1945 - September 15, 2013

Richard "Dick" Michael Dragland

Dick passed from this life on September 15, 2013 in San Antonio, TX while attending the 53rd Sig BN Vietnam reunion. (He had served proudly in the United States Army, including combat in the Vietnam War.)

Dick was born August 23, 1945 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Agnes and Oren Dragland. He came to the states in 1952 with his parents and 2 brothers, settling in the Ballard area of Seattle. He was a 1963 graduate of Ballard High and received an AA from Seattle Community College. In 1967 he enlisted in the Army where he served with the 53rd Sig BN in Vietnam, after active duty he continued with the Reserves and retired after 23 years, as a Sergeant First Class.

He worked for King City, both in downtown Seattle and the Roads Dept. as a Lead until his retirement. He lived for many years in the Bothell-Kenmore area before moving to Bellingham, WA. His retirement passion was finding Vietnam Veterans he had served with in the 53rd Sig BN. He had found more than 475 Veterans and helped them with benefit information and to reconnect with fellow Veterans.

Our sincere condolences to the family at the passing of their husband and father, Richard Michael Dragland. He is survived by his wife Lynda, children Jennifer Rene and Michael John, and twin grandchildren Johhny & Shaine.

Richard was a great person to know. He loved to travel, which he did plenty of during the past number of years, both cruises and annual military reunions which he organized. He spent many hours locating many of his Army veteran friends who served with his Army unit in Vietnam to ensure each reunion was a resounding success. Dick will surely be missed.
